Non-fiction books often have a known portrait of the subject on the cover (good, but somewhat boring), but once in a while they follow the current "headless" trend in historical fiction. Here are a couple of new/upcoming releases:

Recently UK released paperback of the first volume of David Starkey's new biography on Henry VIII:
Henry, Virtuous Prince. It's nice to see a headless man for a change!
UK release 4/14/09

Headless seems to be all the rage nowadays. There are some really beautiful covers created that way and most of them seem to be taken from portraits which, perhaps, would be very expensive to reproduce in full.
In the days since photography, that might be less of a problem (though copyright owners charge a fortune, sometimes, to use their photos!)
Thank you for two very interesting blogs, which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading :-)
